Why?
Young Justice. After mounths of putting it off. Merely learning the basics of the series, admiring the animation, and catching bits and pieces of it in my spare time - I sat at this computer and watched all 26 episodes of YJ's first season back-to-back. (Not to mention the next seven episodes of the second season this afternoon ... when I finally got up.) And, my only problem with the series in general, was the problem I had with it back when I was surviving on clips alone.
Superman. Is. ... or ... Was(?) Such. A. F***ing. Jerk.
I mean, seriously Clark - what the HELL is your problem?
I mean, they made nice in the first season's final ... and, at first ... I was really jazzed about it. When Supes found out that SB had named himself "Kent" and then suggested that he keep it, I swear to all that is right - I almost shed a tear. But, within the first episodes of Young Justice: Invasion, where they were doin' their lil tag-team thing, after all was said and done Clark referred to Conner as, not his SON, but his "little brother." Which seriously ticked me off.
I could understand if the two of them were fairly close in age, making father-son titles awkward - but, from a biological (and physical) standpoint they're years apart ... quite enough years for Supey to take some responsibility as "Daddy" for godsake. I also wouldn't have as much of a problem with this, if the desired relationship in SB's case was NOT father-son, or if it was never firmly established. But it was stated several times that all Superboy ever wanted in his short existance - some time after his liberation - was a dominent father-figure. And, that he looked to Clark AS that father-figure.
... Perhaps, it seems I'm over-reacting just a tad. After all, Supes no longer treats Conner as though he doesn't exist. But, the whole "little brother" thing just struck me as down-right WEIRD.
I mean, look at these lines and TELL me that a father-son relationship was not STRONGLY suggested:
Bruce: Trust me on this. This boy (referring to Conner) needs his father.
Icicle Jr.: Reeks when your Dad is THE man, ya know?
Conner: Believe me, I know.
Miss M. (in disguise): ... It's really more of a father-figure thing. ... Well, he won't admit it - but, "Tommy" really wants to be like his - OUR - father.
Conner: (to Zatana) At least you HAD a father.
I know the few of you who read this, and respond to it are probably going to bring up Lex Luthor. And, how Kon-El's DNA is that of Superman AND Lex Luthor ... *sighs* And, how Lex was the one who claimed Conner as his SON, back when Supey couldn't be bothered. But, from a quite LITERAL standpoint, ladies and germs - HE'S GOT TWO DADS. Just because Lex slapped the label on him first, does NOT excuse Clark from treating Conner like a SON! "Little brother" my foot.
Not to get too personal with you people, but my relationship with my own father is as bad, if not worse, than the Conner-Clark dynamic in the beginning. If he suddenly walked into my life again - and, given the strained state of our relationship - began referring to me as his younger sister, I'd call the mental ward! Maybe it's a Kryptonian thing, seeing as how I operate more on the Batman side of the DC fence, and am unfamilair with the SM mythos, I COULD appear the boob.
But did that line strike anyone else as ... OFF?!
Help me out here, deviants.
